Ashley Mays serves as the Chief Marketing Officer at Newark Alliance and President of Newark Happening. In her dual roles, she leads strategic initiatives to promote Newark as a premier destination for business, culture, and tourism. Ashley's work focuses on enhancing the city's brand identity, fostering economic growth, and creating inclusive opportunities for local communities.
Prior to her current positions, Ashley was the Chief Real Estate and Marketing Officer at Newark Alliance, where she was instrumental in catalyzing investment and development opportunities, particularly along the Halsey Street corridor. Her leadership in placemaking initiatives aimed to drive economic growth and wealth creation, emphasizing equitable development and leveraging the built environment to support resilient and sustainable communities.
With nearly two decades of experience in commercial real estate, Ashley has held significant roles, including Senior Vice President and Head of Leasing at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. There, she oversaw leasing transactions and curated a business ecosystem comprising advanced manufacturing, tech, and creative companies. Her tenure also involved developing strategies around equitable and inclusive growth, marketing, and amenitization.
Earlier in her career, Ashley served as Managing Director of Commercial Leasing for The Durst Organization, supporting new developments in Queens and Philadelphia. She also held the position of Vice President of Leasing at SL Green Realty Corp, managing a 7-million-square-foot office portfolio.
An advocate for increasing diversity in commercial real estate, Ashley contributes her expertise as Vice Chair of the Student Support Subcommittee on the board of the University of Virginia’s Center for Real Estate and the Built Environment. Mays holds a B.S. in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.
